Arroz de leite (milk rice)

My grandmother's (Almida) milk rice recipe


  • 1/2 cup of rice
  • 1 cinnamon stick (whole)
  • 1 L of milk
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • a bit of salt


  • Wash the rice
  • Put the rice and the cinnamon stick in a pot
  • Cover the rice with a little water
  • Cook the rice and cinnamon for a few minutes
  • Add the milk
  • Cook on low heat until creamy
  • Add the sugar and salt and cook quickly just until the sugar dissolves


  • It is nice to eat while warm, but it tastes nice cold from the fridge with a vit of ground cinnamon on the top.
